Garcia and Vargas, John Leonard and more
So, what does Rushdie, Clinton and Beckham have in common? It seems they are among those authors whose book Brits buy but most often leave unfinished. So says a survey commissioned by Teletext and reported by The Guardian.
Garcia Marquez was godfather to Vargas Llosa's son Gabriel but they have not spoken since "the day that the Peruvian writer landed a right hook on the left eye of the Colombian author three decades ago. Neither has ever disclosed the reasons for their feud, though both have let slip that it was " about something personal". Some said it was political views while others blamed jealousy. However according to a new biography of Garcia Marquez, The Journey to the Seed by Dasso Saldivar, the two were fighting over a woman. Head over here for more juicy details.
